If you’re anything like me, you find yourself humming the Star Wars theme an awful lot these days—as you brush your teeth in the morning, drive home from work, or pop into the grocery store for a gallon of milk. It might have something to do with the movies you watched over the holidays. And the commercials. And the paraphernalia you bought for your nephews or grandkids.
There’s just something universal about Star Wars; age doesn’t seem to matter a whole lot. In fact, my 3-year old niece recently announced her plans to become Darth Vader. She is a pretty compelling little girl, though I do hope we don’t lose her to the dark side.
As a little girl, I always wanted to be Luke Skywalker. I wanted to go on adventures and conquer the villains. In some ways, I outgrew the fantasy, but not the sense of adventure.
But sometimes, I have to admit, I stuff my sense of adventure in the closet. I am a grown up, after all, and grown ups have to work, take care of houses and all sorts of other responsibilities, right? For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to write books, but those grown up responsibilities always seem to come first.
As this new years begins, I am reminded of the sage advice of a small, green puppet:
And so the writing adventure begins!
What a great way to sTart out the new year. And may the force be with you.
Thanks, Flo. Same to you!
Just use the force to write a book. Or is that not how it works?
Absolutely. But I must continue my Jedi training…
